'Cipher' is from a Syrian Arab descent and grew up in a Muslim community in the US. He started to get serious in his faith and became solely Qur'an oriented, meaning he would only accept the Haddiths, writings about the daily practices of the Islamic prophet Muhammad, that supported the Qur'an. Cipher questioned the rituals of Islam. He also questioned why did Arab Muslims hate Jewish people, when their prayer form is so similar to one another?
It was Cipher’s interest to watch videos from Christian apologists like Rob Christian, Godlogic, David Woods and Christian Prince. The idea that the Qur'an is not preserved challenged him deeply. So Cipher looked at the oldest Sana' manuscripts of the Qur'an, dated late 7th century. He surprisingly found out that they do not coincide with the Arabic text today. Not only did the original text lack vowels, but it also had noticeable differences in the wording, where some words where changed and in others they are omitted all together. This naturally defied the true preservation claim of the Qur’an, and it was a big red flag for Cipher.
He then looked into the genealogy of Jesus Christ in the Qur'an. David Wood and Apostate Prophet had a video that discussed this. How is it possible for Aaron, the brother of Moses, to be the uncle of Jesus? Cipher could not resolve this. How can Mariam in the OT be mixed with Mary the mother of Jesus in the NT, when they are over a thousand years apart? This was another very problematic red flag for Cipher.
He concluded that the divine claim of the Qur'an itself, couldn't be true. There are no true recorded miracles within the Qur’an. It has some relatively good passages, but it was very hard to accept it as divine because of the glaring red flags he had found. So Cipher worked on Qur'an apologetics and decided to purchase a Bible. He went straight to the New Testament, starting from the gospel of Matthew. Cipher immediately tears as he recalled this point in his life seeking God. He felt that all the questions he once had about prayer, fasting, and adultery were clearly answered by Jesus’ teachings. Yet Cipher still had a big problem with the Christian belief of the trinity, God being three persons in one.
He sensed Jesus speaking to him, telling him to focus in the heart. It's about faith, and not works. Jesus was more personal, more inward focused. Cipher got his then Muslim wife an Arabic Bible. She also loved the teaching as he did.
Cipher has had sleep paralysis problems for many years. Some see it as a medical condition, yet others believe it is spiritual in nature. Cipher felt a dark figure entity attacking him during his sleep paralysis. Cipher would often wake up the whole household because these ultra-realistic nightmares made him scream out uncontrollably. The next time Cipher was attacked, he instinctively decided to call the name of Jesus for help. And when the nightmare started, he did and Jesus was there to help him. And another attack happened again, and Cipher again called on the name of Jesus, and there was Jesus. He couldn't see his face, but he saw a smile. Jesus said he would be ok, but that he would need to go through this. Then Jesus lifted his eyes like a cross and then disappeared as Cipher woke up. Continue listening to his story here!
