This is the story of Ayelet, born and raised in a Jewish household in Israel. People around her were very secular, but she believed God existed. Ayelet’s mother died at an early age and Ayelet’s brother died in war. Ayelet decided to start serving in the Israeli army, but then became very depressed and suicidal. One time in Jerusalem, as she contemplated to end her life, she had a vision of God in his throne. And God was crying and weeping. He said, ‘don’t you know that I can help you?’. She knew God was real and couldn’t receive her into His Kingdom, if she ended her own life.
So Ayelet decided to attend an Orthodox Yeshiva (religious Jewish higher learning institution), to find out more about this God that appeared to her through a vision. That’s where she heard about the Jewish Messiah. She also learned that God could dwell among His people. So Ayelet started praying daily for the Messiah to come and to dwell with her.
One day, she felt a fire enter her. And she heard the words that God was in her now, and that everything would be ok. Ayelet started to speak in tongues, a language that she didn’t really understand. She had a friend that was a Messianic Jew, and she explained to Ayelet that she had received the Holy Spirit. Later on, Ayelet was invited to a group gathering of Christians (prayer house), and she was very comfortable there speaking in tongues. She could sense the power of God in that gathering in a way she never had before anywhere else.
She was later shocked with the understanding that Jesus was the Messiah, and that it was the truth. She was given a New Testament, and was amazed at what she read. This is indeed the God she had cried out to, the one who had come upon her, and the one that answered her prayers.
