This is the story of Rasul (not his real name), born in Azerbaijan to a secular Muslim family. Islam was simply part of their identity. Growing up, all stories he learned included being only being a messenger that didn’t die. He never thought God could love him personally.
When Rasul was young, his friends gave him a stick to hit what they thought where rats in a very dark place. It turned out that they were kittens, and when Rasul’s mom learned about it, she beat him told him it was wrong and asked if Rasul feared Allah. This was the beginning of Rasul fearing Allah’s punishment. One night, Rasul got a dream. He was standing in a bright place full of peace. It was like a garden but unlike anywhere on Earth. Before him stood a man wearing radiant white. There was no fear, only warmth and peace. He looked at Rasul, and he felt safe. The experience felt more real than anything and he couldn’t stop thinking of it – the dream of Heaven and his connection to God.
Rasul started to have prophetic dreams, telling him things of the future. Small things like how much he would score in an exam, to bigger things like where he would be moving to. As a teenager, he was a typical Muslim boy that prayed and fasted. But deep inside he questioned, who Allah was whom he prayed to, in a language he couldn’t understand. He recalls a dream where there was a cake with his country name written on it. Rasul wanted to eat the first piece, but Jesus suddenly asked him to have that piece first.
When Rasul got sick, he started to watch debates – Islam vs Christianity. Something started to stir in his heart. One night, in tears, he prayed and asked who was the one speaking to him through the years. He asked for a dream to reveal God, and He did. Rasul was standing in a silent place holding two books – one had the Qur’an and the other hand the Bible. Then a voice told him to read, and Rasul would understand. Rasul went online and started to read the Bible for the first time. The Bible was completely different. Everything pointed to the Messiah. That night, he asked for one more confirmation to accept Jesus. For the first time in his life, Rasul didn’t pray to Allah or God, he prayed to Jesus. Rasul confessed all his sins, and even a past boss that was hard to forgive. Then the presence of God filled the room. He felt like fire or electricity down his body in a form of cleansing. He asked if it was Jesus, and He said ‘I am’. Rasul’s illnesses coincidentally got healed too. Rasul noticed that the dark dreams and sleep paralysis he had, also went away.
The meaning of the cake, he recalls, was to share Jesus with his people in Azerbaijan, which he currently does. Rasul learned that true love, always comes to rescue the one He loves. Jesus came to rescue him. Watch Rasul’s amazing testimony here!
