Sometimes, our team goes out to preach the Gospel and give out Gospel tracts in North York, located in the northern part of the Greater Toronto Area. There we met Shahim, a Muslim man originally from Afghanistan. He started by asking mocking questions about Christianity. How can there be three gods and how can God die on the cross? But he was willing to listen to our answers. He heard that if God is eternal and loving, then God could not have been a singular 'Tawhid' before creation. The trinity, God is one and three persons, explains this dilemma much better. God, before creation was self sufficient with perfect love and fellowship of God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit. Because we are sinners, we cannot save ourselves. Nobody can work their way to Heaven. Only the perfect sacrifice of Jesus Christ (fully man and fully God), could pay for our sins, so that we can go to Heaven.
Shahim's final challenge was that the Bible was like a broken telephone of Aramaic to Greek to Latin to English and couldn't be trustworthy. To that, we simply asked if he could translate our conversation with his family in Afghanistan. And to that, he said, "every word". Shahim realized his own bias and at a minimum left with a seed of doubt - could Jesus really be the only true way to God?
